Why We Built This Site
Illinois offers several forms of public criminal-record access, but custody depends on who created the record. JCSO maintains sheriff reports, jail intake material, and its current inmate channel. The Jefferson County Circuit Clerk keeps filed charges, docket events, and dispositions. Illinois State Police operates the statewide repository and CHIRP, while IDOC and the Illinois Sex Offender Registry maintain separate custody and registration systems. We assemble verified access steps and practical limits without treating those distinct sources as one database.

This is a privately run reference site, not part of an Illinois court, police department, sheriff's office, or state agency. Its limits are important:
- We do not issue certified court papers, criminal-history transcripts, or police records
- We cannot submit a FOIA request or expungement filing for a reader
- We do not provide legal advice about a charge, case, or eligibility for relief
- We cannot perform an official records check or retrieve a person's file
- We cannot promise that an agency's fee, address, or phone number will never change
An official copy must come from its custodian, such as JCSO, the Circuit Clerk, or Illinois State Police. This resource can identify that office but cannot supply the record.
